BEAUMONT SCHOOL BRINGS HOME 12 AWARDS AND BEST HIGH SCHOOL DISTINCTION FROM WESTERN RESERVE DISTRICT 5 SCIENCE DAY
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS – Beaumont School students demonstrated once again their science aptitude bringing home five individual awards, seven sponsored awards, and the highly coveted Outstanding School Award at the Western Reserve District 5 Science Day held on March 18, 2017 at the University of Akron.
In the invidual category, Beaumont earned three 2nd place awards. They were given to Colleen Martin ‘20 for Biochemistry, Natalie Haddad ‘18 for Chemistry, and Sarah Kikel ’18 for Environmental Science. Third place awards were given to Gabriella Belsito ‘20 for Botany and Meghan Kessinger ‘19 for Environmental Science.
Additionally, fourteen professional associations and organizations presented special awards. Overall, Beaument received seven of these awards. Sponsored awards were presented to Hayley Muhvic ‘20 (Akron District Society of Professional Engineers and ASM International), Grace Elhindi ‘20 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), Colleen Martin ‘20 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers), Meghan Kessinger ‘19 (Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association), and Sarah Kikel ‘18(Northeast Section of the Ohio Water Environment Association).
Of the thirteen students who competed in the Science Day, ten Beaumont students qualified to move forward to compete at the State Science Day at The Ohio State University on May 13. They include: Katherine Bagley ‘20, Gabriella Belsito ‘20, Grace Elhindi ‘20, Natalie Haddad ‘18, Meghan Kessinger ‘19, Sarah Kikel ‘18, Colleen Martin ‘20, Katherine McGreal ‘18, Bridget Popelka ‘20, and Margaret Schiffer ‘17.
In addition, Beaumont earned the award for the Best High School, which is only awarded to one high school and one middle school each year. Criteria for this award includes the number of students who participated from each school, the percentage of the students who received a superior rating, and the number of students placing in the top three award categories.
Beaumont is a college preparatory, all girls Catholic school in the Ursuline tradition that has been educating women for life, leadership and service since 1850. Beaumont School is the only all girls school to offer students the highly prestigious International Baccalaureate Degree Programme.
