Letter from the Principal

September 2014

Dear Parents and Friends of Beaumont,

For the past 18 months, Beaumont School has been researching and investigating ways to continue providing young women in the Cleveland area with the highest quality education possible. After careful consideration and thought, we decided to pursue becoming an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. It is with much excitement that I announce that our application was approved for the 2014-2015 school year. As of September 1, 2014, Beaumont School is officially recognized as an IB candidate school. This is the first step toward Beaumont becoming an authorized IB World School.

The International Baccalaureate program is a world-recognized two-year, college preparation program for junior and senior students. The IB Diploma Programme is considered the gold standard for academic rigor. This globally focused program emphasizes creative problem solving, hands-on projects and inquiry-based learning. There is a large focus on community service and this rigorous, academically acclaimed program builds on the Ursuline mission of educating women for life, leadership and service. We are excited to begin the process of becoming an International Baccalaureate World School.

During my time as Principal of Beaumont School, I have had the privilege of working with forward thinking educators who believe in challenging and inspiring students to think critically and apply skills through rigorous honors and Advanced Placement classes. The IB Program will complement our current program and provide opportunity for our young women to excel academically through a global perspective. Our teachers are excited about the opportunity to begin receiving training in the IB model. This candidate school status allows us to begin the exciting process by training our teachers in this best practice educational model.

Beaumont School will join an elite group of high schools in the Cleveland area; we will be on path to become the only all-girls high school to offer the IB Diploma Programme.

The next few years will be exciting as we begin the process of training teachers and strategically implementing this academically acclaimed program.

We will be providing more information in the months to come.
