Dear Parents,

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas! The students and teachers have shared many memorable moments during the last week to prepare for the Christmas season.
  • Our vocal and instrumental groups have been singing their hearts out at concerts and local venues. Rave reviews came from anyone who attended performances held in conjunction with Benedictine High School. Friday's performance in our theater was a standing room only sell-out crowd. Our prospective 8th graders and their families were treated to music by the girls at the Admissions Christmas Party on Tuesday and the girls also had the opportunity to sing yesterday at the Botanical Garden's GLOW event. As always, they sounded beautiful! I am not sure how they balance it all, but these young women are stellar students as well! I am so glad they are willing to share their voices with others. It is such a gift to all.
  • Friday's Winter Ball was well attended by our juniors and seniors. It was held in St. Ann's Hall and our senior class representatives did an amazing job turning the room into a magical ballroom for the evening. The weather was unbelievable and we were able to open the patio off St. Ann's Hall to allow the girls and their dates a place to cool off and share some quiet time. Who would ever have thought that a dance in December could be held outside! As always, the girls made us proud.
  • We will end the calendar year with a prayer service tomorrow afternoon. Our campus ministry team does a fantastic job helping us focus on the true meaning of Christmas through this service. We follow this prayer time with a final performance of our Voices of Harmony group and a few sing-along songs by faculty and staff. It really is a fun way to move into the holidays!
  • The school will be closed during the holiday vacation. Classes resume on Monday, January 4. This is a regular start day! This will be the final full week of classes before midterms on Tuesday, January 12, Wednesday, January 13 and Thursday, January 14. Please remember it is important for your daughter to be in attendance this week. A built-in, make-up slot is included in Thursday's schedule if a student missed an exam on Tuesday or Wednesday. If your daughter must miss a midterm exam, you must contact Mr. Beyer and arrange to make up the missed test. Please be aware the cafeteria will not be serving lunch on Thursday, January 14. If your daughter is making up an exam, please have her pack a lunch. The cafeteria will be open as usual for breakfast during exam week. If students have an ILT during their first or last testing block of the day, they are permitted to arrive late and leave early. However, if a student has an ILT during the middle block of the testing schedule, they must report to their assigned ILT classroom. If you have any questions about midterm, please contact our Dean of Academics, Mr. Nick Beyer.
A Parent Newsletter will be mailed again on December 31 that will include the weekly school calendar as well as Chef Bo's menu choices for the first week back.

My prayer for all is a happy and joyous Christmas day. Safe travels to all those on the roads this holiday season.
As always, Beaumont is blessed,

Mary Whelan

Attention Parents: Important Attendance Information about Semester Finals

If your student (9-12) has a scheduled ILT on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday during the first exam slot (Block 1, 4, or 7), they may skip that ILT and come to school in time for their exam during the second exam slot (2, 5, 8) at 10:00 AM.  Likewise, if your student (9-12) has a scheduled ILT during the final exam slot (Block 3 or 6), they may leave school after the second exam slot at 11:45 AM.

However, if your student has an ILT scheduled during the middle exam slot of each day (Block 2, 5, or 8), they must remain in school and attend their ILT in their assigned, supervised classroom only.  Additionally, if your student has a first slot or final slot ILT but cannot, for logistical reasons, arrive late or leave early, they then must attend their assigned, supervised ILT.

At no point during exam periods should students be in any location other than supervised classrooms.  No passes will be written to other locations throughout the school.  Specifically, students may not be in the Student Commons or hallways.  We are seeking to protect the testing environment during final exams.  Attendance will be taken immediately at the beginning of each testing period. If your student does not comply with these attendance procedures, she will be considered to have skipped or cut school and will be disciplined in accordance with the policies outlined on page 14 and 15 in the Student Handbook.

Lunch will follow the second exam given each day. Juniors and seniors will eat directly after the middle exam, while freshman and sophomores remain in that block to study. At 12:15, freshman and sophomores will be released for lunch at which time juniors and seniors must return to the middle (blocks 2, 5, 8) exam block class. There will be no lunch served on Thursday, January 14 for make up exams. Please pack a lunch for this day if you are making up and exam.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Please feel free to contact Nick Beyer with any concerns at 216-325-7350.

Angela - Active/Contemplative

"Hold, with certainty that you will never be abandoned in your needs.  God will provide wonderfully well."   St. Angela Merici
St. Angela reminds us "you will never be abandoned in your needs".  God works through us.  In this season when we often feel rushed or pressured, it is important to share the blessings we have been given and remember those who have spiritual or material needs.  We are the hands God uses to provide help to others.  It is so easy to get caught up in the commercial aspects of season and lose focus on the real meaning of Christmas.  Take time with family and friends to reflect on the wonderful gifts of love, family and talents God has provided us.

Advent ActionsAs part of our daily morning prayer we are invited to engage in "Advent Actions."  Today's action based on the "O Wisdom" antiphon for the day is: to write a note to a valuable mentor, teacher, moderator, coach, family member, etc. and share with them how they inspire you to grow in wisdom.

Other examples of "Advent Actions": To give your family the gift of your full presence.  Put away your phone and ask them about their day - showing them that you care about their life, including both the wonderful things and the mistakes
(Dec 16); to identify, and then reflect upon, an area of your life where you feel like God might be asking you to say "YES" to His will (Dec 8); to perform a random act of kindness without seeking recognition for it - in an attempt to be "quiet and humble" (Dec 3). Consider engaging your daughter in a conversation about Advent actions... and be prepared to share what you have done during Advent!

Last Call: March for Life permission forms and money: Students interested in traveling to Washington, DC January 21 - 22 MUST turn in permission forms and $65 by tomorrow.

Beaumont Day-January 29, 2016
The calendar is set for Beaumont Day on Friday, January 29. To orchestrate all the fun that will be scheduled on this day, we will need many volunteers. After the holiday, we will provide a link for volunteers to sign up for a shift. We also will reach out to our list of moms who already have indicated an interest in volunteering for this event.  We hope that you will consider helping us make this the traditional fun event the students have enjoyed for years. There is joy in seeing the girls have a great time with each other.  More details to follow in 2016!

Gift Cards Requested
Please keep the January Teacher Appreciation Week in mind as you shop for the holidays. We will have a raffle for the Beaumont staff, and are graciously asking for donations of gift cards in any amount up to $25 (dining, beauty services, local stores, coffee shops, etc.). Gift cards can be mailed to the school office addressed to:  Beaumont Mothers' Guild/Attn: Rebeka DeChant or they can be put directly in the Mothers' Guild mailbox at the school.
