Message from the Principal

It was such a nice week and filled with many activities since I last wrote my letter. I want to begin by thanking everyone who attended our Dorothy Kazel Liturgy celebration last Friday. Bishop Gries was our celebrant and shared some of his personal memories he had of Dorothy. Dorothy's brother and his family also shared in the celebration. It was wonderful to hear the stories that her Aunt Dorothy shared with us. It has been 32 years since we lost Dorothy and her companions, but it was evident that she has made a lasting impression and impact on our community and our world. This liturgy is always impressionable and emotional. Thanks to all involved in the planning of this beautiful celebration.

Last night our Admissions team organized our Presidential Academic Scholarship Reception for the eighth grade students who took our entrance exam during the month of October. This year a record number - 52 young ladies - scored in the 90th percentile or above to qualify them for this distinction. They were treated to a beautiful program in our chapel that was followed by a reception in our theater. Our Voices of Harmony choir performed two songs before heading over to Benedictine to perform at the Abbey with their men's choir. Two of our seniors spoke to the recipients and their families about our Beaumont community and opportunities within our Academic Scholars program. A big thank you is extended to Gillian Davies and Johanna Tomsick who spoke eloquently and passionately about their experiences and love for Beaumont.

It is our hope that all these young ladies will apply to Beaumont in January. Please pray for them as they make their decision regarding their high school.

On Wednesday, December 19th our faculty and staff will be attending their Christmas party off campus. Because all faculty and staff are included in this celebration, we are asking all parents to make arrangements for their daughters to be picked up by 4:00 pm on this day. We will be closing the building since we cannot provide supervision for the students. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Congratulations to Alexis Bovell and Michelle Park who have been selected as members of the 2013 Look Up To Cleveland class. This is a program of the Cleveland Leadership Center and supported by corporations, foundations and community sponsors. It is quite an honor to be selected for this program and Beaumont is blessed to have two students selected this year.

Congratulations to Katie Hankins who was honored this morning at the Better Business Bureau Centennial Celebration. She participated in the Students of Integrity Competition and was recognized as an Honorable Mention recipient. I was happy to attend this ceremony with her and her family.

Finally, congratulations to Laura Carr, Kimberly Clark, Erin O'Brien, Johanna Tomsick and Lylah Wolff who were also recognized for their artistic talents at the recent eXpressions, an educational initiative sponsored by the Cleveland Clinic. More details are provided below on their accomplishments. Beaumont surely has much to be proud of. Thanks, girls, for being who you are!

There are not many days left before we leave for the holidays. As we get busier and busier with family and holiday activities, don't forget to keep an eye on your daughter's academic progress. Sometimes they lose sight of school when they are distracted by the excitement of the holiday. PowerSchool continues to be a great resource for parents. I encourage you to log on and check out your daughter's progress. There will only be seven days of classes before finals when we return after Christmas break.

Thanks again for all your support and encouragement. As always, Beaumont is blessed,

Mary Whelan
