Message from the Principal

Dear parents and friends of Beaumont,

It has been a quiet day here as we wrap up Quarter 2 with final exams for our Block 4 and Block 1 classes. Though the girls are conscientious and prepared for their exams, they still stress and worry about these exams.

Our counselors spend time during their group guidance meetings to work through these fears and concerns by providing good study skills and stress reducing aids. Our teachers also provide them with review materials, study guides and before and after school study sessions to help alleviate some of this stress. Our school wide prayer today, selected by students themselves, even helped set the tone for our girls. It was very quiet as we heard this prayer resonate throughout the entire building:

Dear Lord,
Sometimes I feel a little strange praying to you because of an exam.
It doesn't really seem all that significant when you consider the "big picture."
But right now, the test looms so large that it is all I can see before me.
I pray to you for three things:
The strength to handle the pressure I feel
The confidence to feel secure in my knowledge and preparation
And the ability to keep an appropriate perspective on it all.
Help me to keep in mind what is really important,
Even as I focus all of my time and energy
On this test in the immediate future. Amen.

I am excited that the girls will have a nice, long weekend to relax and enjoy a few days without school work. They worked hard these past few weeks and deserve a little "me" time!

On another note, I would like to continue my communication about our safety and crisis plans. As I shared months ago, I had a personal meeting with Chief Robertson in regards to placing flashing lights on North Park Blvd. It has been a long process but I received the call yesterday from the Chief letting me know that the installation of these lights has been approved and the equipment is on order! The installation is dependent on arrival of the equipment and weather conditions during the next few weeks. A special thank you goes out to Chief Robertson who understood our concerns and helped make this request happen.

Mrs. Teeples and I will be meeting with the Cleveland Heights Police CRT (Community Response Team) tomorrow to review and update our crisis plan that is on file with the city and the State of Ohio. The officers of this team have been stopping by occasionally to check in and build relationships with our school community. It originally piqued a lot of our girls' interest, but I think they are becoming more comfortable with the police presence in the building. We continue to reassure them that their presence is a positive way to develop relationships and maintain a safe and healthy environment of our students. You may want to share your awareness of this presence with your daughter as well. If you have anything to share, please don't hesitate to call and voice your concerns or ideas.

There is a lot to read about in the rest of this newsletter. I know our Ski Club has extended their deadline for the upcoming ski trip so if you missed it and still want to sign your daughter and/or yourself up, there is still room! The Boosters' Corn Hole event is next weekend and there is still room to sign up a team. My bag-watcher status has been moved up to participant this year! My husband and I will be teaming up with Ms. Grimaldi (college counselor) and Ms. Barnett (intervention teacher.) I would love to be matched up against any of you. My friends tell me I am a bit competitive so this could be lots of fun for all!

Enjoy the long weekend with your girls. We will see everyone back here on Tuesday.

As always,

Beaumont is blessed.
