Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Friends of Beaumont,
Isn't it funny how Daylight Savings Time can really affect our entire week? I am exhausted this week but after reviewing the calendar I am not sure if it's because of the time change or the many events and activities that happened since my last newsletter.
Let me begin by letting you know that our girls were able to share in the news announcement of our new Pope as it unfolded. Computers were being used and our TV's were tuned throughout the school to follow the news coverage. We have been praying for our cardinals during this time of transition and have taken advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the process, so there was definitely an interest in the outcome. We shared in prayer at the end of the day and look forward to what Pope Francis will bring to our 1.2 billion-strong church. We are excited that he is the first Jesuit pope and first non-European since the Middle Ages. This is an exciting time for all of us. Please pray with us as he begins his first days as Pope.
Our Oldies Dance last Friday was one of the best ever. The girls had a great time and the costumes were creative and appropriate. We had oldies from as late as the 90's (boy does that sound funny) and early as dinosaurs and cavemen. One of the more creative costumes was our very own "Eve." Unfortunately, Adam was not present to share in the festivities. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to chaperone. Your help is greatly appreciated. Once again, our security guards commented on how well behaved our students are. They pick Beaumont dances over any other to chaperone. We like hearing that.
On Sunday, many of our mothers and daughters attended the Mother Daughter Mass and Breakfast sponsored by our talented Fathers' Club. Fr. Donald Cozzens from John Carroll was the presider of the Mass. He gave an interesting homily about the "prodigal daughter." Though our fathers were not in attendance at the Mass, we felt (or heard) their presence when the school's fire alarm system went off during communion. It appears that the exhaust fans were not turned on before heating the griddle so we had unexpected visitors show up in a fire engine! It made for lots of excitement and great opportunity to razz our fathers! But, the pancakes were delicious and the fathers were the best hosts we have had, making sure our juice and coffee cups were never empty. Thanks, dads for making the event special.
Our guest speaker was wonderfully captivating. Marylin Young, a friend of one of our Fathers' Club presidents, spoke to the moms and daughters about "Communicating With Your B.F.F." She clarified that your B.F.F. would be your best friend forever, your best family forever and your best Father forever - referring to our Father in heaven. She was comical, serious, passionate and faith-filled. Her story was real and she shared some very personal and private experiences with our group. The hurt she has experienced this last year, and her faith in dealing with this hurt touched every person in the room. The thing that gets her through these difficult times is the ability to communicate with God through prayer. She asked the women present to let God into their lives through prayer. She ended by asking us to let God in, let Him lead us, and let Him love us. If we do, he will be our B.F.F. forever. It truly was an inspiring and remarkable story. I believe she touched many hearts on Sunday.
Our science fair students had a remarkable weekend and once again, Beaumont performed very well at the competitions. I can attest to their talents because I received an email on Monday from one of the judges who commended one of our students on a job well done. He was extremely impressed with the quality of research and the depth of understanding our student showed when presenting her project. Read the article below to read more about the accomplishments of our ladies. We are so proud of them.
Finally, our Beaumont Gala is quickly approaching and it is an event you will not want to miss. It will be held on Saturday, April 13 at the InterContinental Hotel. Look for the invitation to arrive in the mail this week. Our Gala chairs, Dee Barone and Stephanie Luck DeLuca have done a great job organizing events for the parents and have especially raised the excitement of our students in school with some fun and unique incentives to raise money for scholarships. The evening will include Mass, dinner, auctions and live entertainment. Mark your calendars now and plan on attending. It is one of those events I look forward to each year.
We are nearing the end of quarter three and our girls will need to be particularly focused on finishing strong. Please use our online resources to check on your daughter's progress in her classes. You can log on to PowerSchool to see her current grades. Finals will take place on Monday, March 25 and Tuesday March 26. The girls will return to school Monday, April 8. This is not a late arrival day for the girls. Our faculty meeting has been moved to 3:00 PM so plan on dropping your daughters off at their normal time on April 8.
Wow, this was a lot to share, but all news that I feel necessary to keep you updated and informed on the workings of our school.
