Parent Newsletter for May 2

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends of Beaumont,

There is excitement in the air this week, not only because of the change in weather, but because of the many recognitions being bestowed upon Beaumont students this week. It all began last Saturday when our students returned to the 3rd Annual AWT Robobot Competition held at Lakeland Community College in Kirkland.

If you remember from last year, our girls took second place behind West Geauga after a judge's decision match. It was a sweet victory this year as our girls won the entire competition and came home first place winners. They also were awarded the medal for coolest robot in both substance and style! The team, consisting of Molly Cogan, Alyssa Muttillo, Sarah Myers, Julie Schiffer, Elizabeth Stanitz, and Ana Maria Vargas will be moving on to compete at Nationals in Indianapolis on May 17. We are so grateful for the sponsor and coaches from Christopher Tool. Their Saturday morning meetings surely paid off. Also, special thanks to Mrs. Santo who has been working with them as well. Good luck at Nationals.

As our science students were competing in Kirtland one of our students, Joy Jackson, was competing in an instrumental competition in Cleveland. Joy participated in the state ACTSO competition for classical instrument and won first place for her beautiful violin solo. She will move on to compete at the national level in July. The NAACP will be sponsoring her and sending her to Orlando, Florida in July. We wish her the best of luck, as well.

On Monday we announced the results of the AATF's Grand Concourse: National French Test. As expected our girls made us proud. At the Intermediate Level, Catherine Aumiller ranked 9th in the nation. With over 20,000 students testing, this is quite an accomplishment. At the Advanced Level, Delany Clark ranked 15th in the nation and 10th in the state of Ohio. All the girls that participated did exceptionally well and we are happy to share their success.

Yesterday a group of pre-engineering students participated in the Legacy New Tech Cardboard Canoe contest at Cleveland Heights High School. Again, our girls brought home a first place trophy! They place 4th in the race, 2nd in creativity and won the 1st place trophy for their presentation. The trophy that sports a canoe on top is on display in the main office for all to enjoy.

Tonight is our Annual Fine and Applied Arts Fair. The students have been setting up their displays all week. I am especially proud or our seniors who are enrolled in the Senior Seminar class. They have done an exceptional job turning our foyer into a first class art museum. Some of our music students will be performing in the chapel and our fashion students will be sending models down our runway in the theater to show off the talents of our creative fashion students. I look forward to this event every year and encourage each of you to try and attend. The event runs from 6:00 - 9:00 PM this evening.

Finally, a special thank you is extended to the Mothers' Guild members who organized last week's Mother Daughter Farewell Dinner. It always amazes me how our lunch room can be turned into such a lovely eating space when you add flowers and pretty tablecloths. Your work was appreciated.

The days ahead look as full as this past week so make sure you talk with your girls and check our website for information and updates for year-end activities. Until next week, Beaumont is blessed,

Mary Whelan
