 Message From the Principal
Mary Whelan
Dear Parents,
How did the month of May get here so quickly? Chef Bo's countdown boards in the dining room reveal only 3 more days for seniors and 24 for underclassman! There is so much to do in such a little amount of time. However, as it happens every year, the work will get done, the ceremonies will go on as planned and the girls will all be promoted to their next grade level.
  • This past Tuesday, 146 students were recognized at the National Honor Society Awards assembly. Students holding leadership roles throughout the year were nominated or identified by teachers. Officers of the many clubs and societies of Beaumont School were presented certificates for their commitment to these clubs. Service awards were also presented to the students from each grade level with the highest number of volunteer hours through April. Congratulations to our top service recipient, Senior, Rachael Fink, who volunteered 590.5 hours while a student at Beaumont School. Grade level recipients receiving service awards are: Freshmen, Isabel Baker-Smith and Ellen Brandon; Sophomores, Katie McGreal and Mary Bova; Juniors, Emily Salomone and Maggie Hutter and Seniors, Abby Bova . Finally, recognition was also given to the top students in each grade level who exemplifies School Spirit. Congratulations to Senior,Katie Spolar, recipient of the Spirit of Beaumont Award. Grade level winners, selected by their peers were: Freshmen, Bridget Spolar and Hanna Pappas; Sophomores, Destiny Hunter and Liz Jerse; Juniors, Cayla Mercurio and Crista Kieley; Seniors, Katie Spolar and Tiffany Padilla.
  • Tonight is one of my favorite nights. I hope you read this letter in time to be reminded that our annual Fine Arts Review is taking place tonight beginning at 6:30 PM. Student artwork will be on display throughout the school. Exhibits from our beginning art classes to our Studio Art IV classes will be featured. The displays have been coming to life all week as the students mat and prepare their final pieces of art for display. Many of the pieces on display have been entered in art competitions around the area and have received awards for the quality of work shown. Our art teachers, Miss Sally, Ms. Foti and Mrs. LoPresti will be on hand to reveal the winner of the 2016 Art Scholarship winner. In addition to the art, our ceramic students will also have pieces on display outside the St. Angela Merici Chapel. Our Voices of Harmony girls will be providing a bit of entertainment as well. Plan on sticking around until 8:00 PM to watch the "much talked about" fashion show our Fashion Students have prepared. The Pattern Drafting students have great pieces of clothing they designed for the show. You won't be disappointed if you stay!
  • Our seniors will be participating in their Senior Retreat tomorrow. As much as the girls talk about being ready to move on, this day has a way of pulling together all the joys, friendships, growing pains, experiences and relationships that have transpired over the past four years. It becomes emotional in a good way as the girls take time to reflect on the past, the present, and the future. Our Campus Ministry team has worked hard to put together a well planned and thoughtful day. The day will end with a Mass celebrated by the President of St. Ignatius High School, Father Ray Guiao. Please keep our seniors in your prayers tomorrow.
Looking ahead
  • Our freshman students will be participating in a Class Unity event tomorrow in the Bertrand Courtyard off the dining room. This has become a very popular activity for the 9th graders. Thanks to our class moderators, Mrs. Mulhall and Mr. Masters who have worked with our freshman all year. Let's pray for great weather tomorrow afternoon.
  • On Tuesday, May 10, some of our students will be performing at the Beaumont POPS! This event, formally called "Mayfest", will take place at 7:00 PM in our theater.  If you have not had a chance to watch our girls perform, now is the time. The variety of talent is amazing and it may be your last chance to see our seniors perform.
  • Tuesday is the last day for seniors and you know what that means - the jumping of the wall! At around 2:45 PM the Fairmount sidewalk will begin to fill up with parents and friends to witness this rite of passage from high school to college. Don't be late as our girls travel faster through the halls than any other day of the year!
Thanks for all you do and as always, Beaumont is blessed,
Mary Whelan

What's Cooking in the Kitchen? When I was hired at Beaumont, I never thought the hardest part of the job would be saying goodbye to such wonderful young women as they graduate and move on at the end of each year.  To the Class of 2016 - It's truly been a privilege to cook for you these past few years and I wish you the best of luck as you head off to your Project REAL, graduation, and then off to college. You are always welcome to come back to visit the kitchen and to buy a Beaumont cookie!  God bless you all!  --Chef Bo

May: the month of Mary - In the Roman Catholic tradition May is the month when we especially honor Mary, mother of God. Consider including Marian prayers, including the Hail Mary, Memorare or Hail Holy Queen, into your regular routines.
Service: Thank you for supporting your daughter as she completes service hour requirements. We are heartened as we read essays from juniors about the transformative experience many of them had with Junior Service Project.
Senior Retreat tomorrow: Please continue to pray for our seniors during these exciting and sometimes exhausting times. The Senior Retreat will allow them to slow down for a day and reflect on their Beaumont experience.  As a reminder, this is a mandatory event and students who are absent will be required to participate in an alternative experience.
Juniors - Opportunity for training to serve as Eucharistic Minister:  We are still looking for a few more juniors to participate in the formation session (for rising high school seniors only) to become Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.  Students must be a Catholic in good standing and get a letter of recommendation from their pastor and a teacher at Beaumont. Formation session is Sunday, May 22 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at St. Edward High School. RSVP to Campus Ministry by Tuesday, May 17. The fee is $10.  Please note students who are unable to attend the high school formation session may still participate by attending another diocesan training session.

Voices of Harmony returned from Ireland, Wales, and England on April 27, and we  had a marvelous time. The girls were wonderful - I could not have asked for better. They sang beautifully and created community wherever they went. Many of the girls still correspond with friends they made at Cabinteely Community School in Dublin and Ursuline High School in Wimbledon, England. We were able to represent Beaumont and the music department on the global stage and made memories we will never forget.

I would like to thank my chaperones: Mary Baltas, Noha Bechara,  Marilou Capichioni, James Litteral, and Maribeth Wuertz. They were terrific and a great deal of fun to travel with. Without all of them, our trip would not have been possible. Many thanks also to Mr. Josh Chenowith for inviting us on this trip and to the Benedictine Men's Choir who were delightful to sing and travel with as well.

Beaumont Music Department has two performances left, so I hope you will take advantage of them. This evening, May 5, we will feature four of our honors musicians in recital. The Honors Recital starts at 7:00  PM in the St. Angela Merici Chapel. It will be over in plenty of time for the fashion show.

Tuesday, May 10 will be our last concert of the season - Beaumont POPS! All of our ensembles will be featured in pops and light concert music, along with solos and duets. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for children under 12. If you wish to reserve tickets, please contact me at The concert will start at 7:00 PM. There is no reserve seating, unless handicap seating is required. We will also honor our Tri-M Music Honor Society seniors at that time.

Please join me in congratulating Madeline Baltas and Nina Mesh for being chosen 2015-2016 WCLV Northeast Ohio Music Allstars. Their names will be announced on a rotating basis on WCLV during the month of May, and can be found on the website, as well.

As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank all of you for sharing your daughters with us here at Beaumont and the Music Department. I hope your summer is filled with many blessings.
