Message from the Principal

Every week it seems like we are celebrating something. Last night it was the Junior Unity Ceremony. This ceremony takes place every November and is often called the ring ceremony because it is the time our juniors have their class rings blessed and distributed. Though it is centered around the "class ring," it really is a time to reflect on the relationships that have developed between the members of the junior class these first three years of high school. Many of the class officers and homeroom representatives provided reflections on friendship and unity. The girls always pick a theme for this ceremony and this year it was taken from Toy Story - "To Infinity and Beyond." Each of the girls processed in carrying a tiny toy soldier to signify the bond of friendship and working as a unit.

I always feel a sense of awe at this ceremony as I reflect back on the girls' first few weeks of high school. Distributing rings and listening to the girls' speeches really allows me and the staff to see how Beaumont is transforming these young 16 year old girls into women ready to take on the challenge of life, leadership and service. It is a special evening for our girls and I thank Mrs. Brandon, their Class Moderator, for helping the girls put together such a special event for the class.

Earlier in the week we put on a special fundraiser to help support the people in the Philippines who lost so much from the typhoon that hit their country a few weeks ago. Chef Bo agreed to prepare a special meal for this fundraiser and designated all proceeds of the meal to go towards the relief services. His simple pasta lunch was well received and he feed over 150 students that day. Along with his contribution, our faculty and staff contributed homemade goodies to sell during lunch. The bakery was delicious and our girls seemed impressed by the "culinary skills" that some of their teachers possess! There were some pretty creative choices for the girls to choose from. Between Chef Bo's lunch and the teacher's bake sale we were able to send a check for $800 to our Student Council's charity this year. The Catholic Relief Services was selected as this year's charity. They have been requesting funds to support the Philippines so it was a perfect choice for us. Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting this cause. These types of compassionate reactions that come from our girls reinforce the philosophy and mission of our school.

I don't want to forget mentioning how wonderful last week's production of Godspell was. The girls were phenomenal and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the performance. I heard that the Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances were all sell-outs. The word got out quickly that it was a must-see performance and our girls were able to sing to a full house each night. Thanks to the girls who worked non-stop for the past few weeks rehearsing and preparing for this show. Of course they couldn't have done it without the direction of some wonderful coaches. Thanks to Mrs. Bernardo, Ms. Wojtowicz, Dr. Litteral and Ms. Kluiber. Job well done!

We also sent a group of young ladies to the District IV Honors Band/Chorale Festival at Cleveland State over the weekend. The girls had the opportunity to work under the direction of Rollo Dilworth. Dr. Litteral was especially proud of our girls during the performance. We are blessed to be invited to participate in festivals like this one.
If you are a parent of a senior, Ms. Grimaldi is hosting a Parent Financial Aid Meeting tonight at 7:00 PM. She does a great job helping parents understand the FAFSA process. Don't miss this important meeting.

Finally, we will be having 40 students and staff participating in a Kairos Retreat for the next three days. Our girls attend this retreat with St. Edward High School. As a mother of two children who attended one of these retreats I can verify how special thisthree day retreat is in the formation of the child's faith. My children, now 26 and 28, often talk about the impact that this one retreat had on their lives. Please keep these young ladies in your prayers that their experience will bring them to a closer relationship with our good and gracious God. They left today and will return on Saturday.
Next week marks the halfway point for Quarter Two. Progress reports will be sent to parents of students that have below a C average in their current classes. Remember that you always have access to the student's progress through PowerSchool. If you need help with logging on or lost your password, please contact Sr. Adelaide in our Technology department.

Next week will be a short week of classes so that you and your family will have an opportunity to spend time with friends and relatives over the Thanksgiving holiday. Please remember that the Monday after Thanksgiving is a late start day since our faculty and staff will be involved in the regular faculty meeting. My hope for you is a Thanksgiving holiday filled with much time to relax and enjoy time with your daughter and family. May God bless you and keep you safe and healthy this Thanksgiving holiday.

As always, Beaumont is blessed,

Mary Whelan
