Parent Newsletter - September 12

Message from the Principal

Who would have dreamed that this week would bring record high temperatures in Cleveland? Hopefully we are through with this heat wave and the temperatures will drop and make the classrooms and school more comfortable. As hot as it has been, I must compliment our students and staff for never complaining. I suppose we can't help but think in a few months we will be bringing out the shovels and moving snow.

Did I say shovels? We won't be waiting months to bring out shovels - it's only days before we will be bringing them out and using them to turn the dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for September 24 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM.

Hopefully you received an invitation to this event. It will take place in the West Lot and we encourage all to attend. It would be helpful if you sent an RSVP to Mary Lynn Haldi if you are planning to attend. The ceremony begins at 4:00 pm.

One of the preparations for the groundbreaking is to move the statue of St. Angela that graces our North Park entrance. This week we took photos of each grade level surrounding the statue because we will be placing the statue in storage while we begin construction on the STEM building. We will have a small service on the morning of the 24th with our girls before the statue is removed. Luckily we have another statue of St. Angela in our courtyard as a daily reminder of our patron saint. These physical reminders of our Ursuline heritage are important to maintaining the mission and culture of our school. We will miss her welcoming our students and visitors each day, but know that she has a way of popping up all over the place, especially when we need her

We have made a conscious effort this year to incorporate more visible reminders of St. Angela in our daily lives at school. We begin each day with prayer and a reflective counsel of St. Angela. A traveling statue of Angela has been making her way through the halls of Beaumont as she moves to new classrooms whenever the current "owner" of the statue witnesses St. Angela working through a faculty or staff member. So far St. Angela has spent time with Mrs. Mastrangelo, Sr. Ann Wojnar and Mr. Langa. The girls have enjoyed watching her move from room to room and hearing the story of her travels as she arrives at her new destination. We have also created a bulletin board as a reminder of the many faces of St. Angela present throughout our school. Each one of our girls represents the face of St. Angela and we hope they begin seeing that face in themselves and in each other.

We received great news this week from the National Merit Association. Two Beaumont students have been recognized as National Merit Semifinalists this year. Congratulations to Delaney Clark and Bailey Swartz whose scores on the PSAT their junior year qualified them for this recognition.

Group Guidance classes began this week for all students. Your daughters will be meeting once a week in small groups with their Guidance counselors. Ms. Stefanos and Ms. Iarussi have an opportunity to talk with the girls about issues and concerns regarding school, academics and social situations. These small group sessions provide a great opportunity to develop trust and comfort with our guidance department. Please remember that the counselors are also available to parents for assistance with questions or concerns regarding the same kinds of issues.

Our freshmen induction is Monday evening at the Ursuline Motherhouse. We are moving it this year to focus on the start and end of their Beaumont career. Since our girls end their days as a senior during Baccalaureate at the Ursuline chapel we thought it might be fitting to begin their Beaumont career at induction as a freshman at the Ursuline chapel. Some of our upperclassmen will address the girls and the moderators have created a beautiful ceremony to recognize this powerful event. If you are a parent of a freshman, we strongly encourage you to attend this very special ceremony. A reception will follow in Klyn Hall.

Finally, you can officially begin signing up for Parent-Teacher conferences today. Please visit this link to register online for conferences with your daughter's teachers. Reminder postcards are being mailed today so don't wait too long to sign up.

Conferences will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM. This will be an early release day for our students. Please know that school will end at 2:00 PM on that day. Though the conferences are not mandatory we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss your daughter's progress with her teachers. If you don't have any concerns at this point, remember you can always email any teacher during the school year.

Enjoy time with your daughters and remember, Beaumont is blessed,

Mary Whelan
