Newsletter for Parents & Friends of Beaumont School - September 26, 2013
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Friends of Beaumont,
What an exciting week it was for Beaumont School! On Tuesday, September 24we officially "turned the dirt" at our Groundbreaking Ceremony. Our STEM building is not just on paper anymore. We are moving forward and had a beautiful ceremony with our stakeholders present to celebrate this momentous occasion.
None of this would have been possible without the hard work of
Sr. Gretchen, the Board of Directors, the Development Office, our architects and builders and especially our generous financial contributors. Without their vision, their determination and their dedication to this project, we would not be able to start building this nine million dollar addition that will benefit most of our current students and many more to come in the future.
We began the day with a "statue moving" ceremony during homeroom. The current statue of St. Angela that graces our North Park entrance needs to be moved in order to create a new driveway that will lead to the new front entrance of our school. We will relocate this statue after the building is constructed so we will need to have St. Angela in a safe place until the construction is completed. We blessed the statue and watched as our maintenance men, under the supervision of Norbert Koehn (local sculptor and artist,) removed Angela from her pedestal. Our girls sang the Alma Mater during the transition. Immediately following the ceremony we had the opportunity to recognize one of our staff in a very special way.
When we began this school year we decided to implement a new program identifying and recognizing physical signs of St. Angela working through our faculty and staff. This week, during the statue moving ceremony, our "traveling Angela" was presented to Elba Bayan. Elba is a member of the school's maintenance department and is a perfect example of how St. Angela would be if she was alive and living amongst us today. She was recognized for her gentle kindness, constant care of the school, the students and the staff and her constant smile and interest in all. Elba is loved by all and so deserving of this recognition. The teachers that have been earlier recipients of "Traveling Angela" have housed her in their classrooms or offices. Elba chose to display her in our chapel so if you are around stop in and check her out. Along with the statue is a small notebook that journals the path that Angela has taken so far this year! It is great reading and available to all. Ask your daughters about the journey St. Angela has taken so far this year! The girls get so excited each time a new recipient is announced and love congratulating and sharing in their surprise and excitement.
Don't forget that Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held today from 3:00 - 8:00 PM. The appointments were made on line earlier in the month so if you do not have an appointment and still need to see a teacher, please contact the school and we will see if there are any times left for you to meet up with your daughter's teacher. If there are no time slots available, remember that you can always email a teacher and ask for a conference at another time.
I am sure your daughter reminded you that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, September 27. I know they are looking forward to sleeping in and enjoying a three day weekend.
As always, Beaumont is blessed,
Security at Beaumont
It has been one week since we informed you of a security concern we had with an uninvited person on our property. I remain proud of students and staff that handled the situation in a quick and professional manner. We assured you that we were working diligently to review our security plans to determine if there were any additional measures we could take to protect our students and staff. The following items are taking place:
At the suggestion of the Cleveland Heights Police Department, we are in the process of ordering new signs to be posted on our property. These "No Trespassing" signs will give the police department the ability to respond more quickly to trespassers. We have asked the police department to be more visible during our morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. We asked them to continue to drop by throughout the day to visit and check in with us. They have agreed to visit as often as they are able in the upcoming weeks. We truly appreciate their interest in protecting our school and our students. Our guidance counselors have begun the discussion of safety with our girls during their Group Guidance classes. By the end of the week all students should have had this discussion with our counselors.During the day our students occasionally need to return to their cars for items. With the addition of our new parking lots and its distance from the school we will be having a staff member accompany the student to retrieve any articles. As you can see, we are conscientious about protecting our students and are willing to review and implement new procedure we feel will be aligned to our safety standards. Thanks for all your responses and suggestions we received following our last contact with you.
