Steel Magnolias explores the powerful relationships between women and the quiet strength that all women possess. Beaumont Drama invites you to share an evening of our favorite emotion, laughter through tears, as you share the joys and sorrows of the ladies at Truvy’s and the charm of Harling’s Steel Magnolias

The action is set in Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager assistant, Annelle, (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee; and the local social leader, M’Lynn, who daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town) is about to marry and create a family of her own. These six women share gossip, laughter, and tears as time marches on (“And eventually you realize it’s marching across your face”).

Beaumont’s production features the talents of six smart, funny, sensitive young women: sophomore Molly Cogan (Annelle), juniors Delany Clark (Truvy), Anastasia Fiala (Clairee), and Caity Cook (Shelby); and seniors Megan Jones (M’Lynn) and Sam Graf (Ouiser). The cast is led by stage manager Dora Farona ’14 and assistant stage managers Sam Rufo ‘15 and Allie Noe ’16. A wonderful crew of 22 students manages tasks from set construction to lighting to sound. Steel Magnolias is directed by Kathryn Bernardo, an English and Fine Arts instructor at Beaumont.
